Wellington Railway Station $1,250 unframed - $1,750 framed Status: Available
I was born in Japan and grew up in Tokyo and New York. After graduating from a university in Tokyo I left Japan in 1977 to live in Sydney, Australia, which has been my home ever since.
I first photographed landscape in colour in Australia and New Zealand, where I found the quality of light to be quite different from Japan. Beautiful light in new environment kept me fascinated and inspired – what light created for me was art.
I am passionate about capturing the light with my emotional response on encounter, which is quite often a brief one, and I am happy when I have captured it, not only for myself but also to share with others.
I love to travel, to be in different environments, to come across beautiful landscapes, towns, moments; sometimes dynamic, sometimes just the simple quiet beauty in everyday scene or capturing a moment of an evolving scene. Travelling to other parts of the world evoked another genre of interest; photojournalism – some of which I enjoyed shooting in black and white, processing film and printing in the dark room. I also enjoyed shooting live stage performances in colour – rock concerts to musicals, circuses to ballet.
Whatever the subject, it’s the emotional essence that I am always passionate about capturing in the shot.
